Küçükyalı ArkeoPark is located within the boundaries of Çınar Neighbourhood, which a part Maltepe Province in the Asian side of modern İstanbul. Küçükyalı ArkeoPark is an archaeological site presently tucked between densely built environment of Küçükyalı and Çınar neighbourhood which is a result a fast urbanization in 1970’s. In antiquity, the area was surrounded by pastures and green fields, likely extended closer to the Sea of Marmara, and was visible from the Princes’ Islands. The site, which was about 600 metres away from the Marmara Sea until recently, is now further to the sea shore because of the filling of the sea at Maltepe seashore. One of the main transportations axes, Bağdat Caddesi is about 130 metres to the south of the site. The other important axis, E-5 highway is about 800 metres to the north of the site.
Our philosophy
The scientific level of the archaeological work carried out in Küçükyalı ArkeoPark is always kept at the highest level. The results of archaeological excavations carried out by experienced and skilled experts are documented in detail and shared with the scientific community. The needs and the expectations of the residents of the neighbourhood are always kept in the forefront during the participation based “public archaeology” activities which are carried out parallel to the archaeological excavations. Sustainability is the basic principal for archaeological excavations, architectural and landscape design, cultural heritage educations and activities executed with the participation of the residents of the neighbourhood. Moreover, no change on the boundaries of the first degree protected archaeological site and the built environment is envisaged as a result of archaeological excavations and research.
